While the good weather means we’ve all been enjoying more outdoor time, office interiors continue to be a major focus for us here at Axis Solutions through the warmer-than-usual Scottish summer. In the office In Scotland, contemporary office interiors need to be pleasant, welcoming places, come rain or shine. While we may all be dreaming of beach, golf course, or hillside, in reality we’ll be spending around 40 hours most weeks in the office. And those hours need to be productive. At Axis we help to create positive working environments where people can focus and get the job done. All finished In the last few months some of the interior fit-out projects we’ve successfully completed include: Scottish Enterprise in Bellshill and Stirling Kintyre House, Glasgow Sutherland House Glasgow Acumen Finance, Edinburgh Henderson Loggie, Edinburgh All these projects create working environments where people can focus, instead of daydreaming about the outdoors. Good space planning, use of natural light, smart air-conditioning and break-out spaces are all features that make our office spaces pleasant, regardless of what’s happening outdoors. Find out more about office interior design from Axis Solutions. In progress We’ve many more projects in progress and others lining up for the autumn. These include city centre projects in Glasgow and Edinburgh, local projects in Hamilton and some further away around the country. Behind the scenes at The Open A major July highlight in Scotland was the 147th Open which was played this year at Carnoustie. We played our part – indoors once again – fitting out the new golf professional shop, part of a new building with bar and restaurant that visitors to Carnoustie can continue to enjoy.
As Carnoustie gets ready to host The Open in July, Axis got involved to help fit out the stock room for a brand new shop. Carnoustie has played host to the world famous Open Championship on seven previous occasions. This time they've build a brand new club house with a pro shop, seven golf simulator bays, visitor locker rooms, caddie facilities and an office for local golf clubs. The new building also provides a bar and restaurant, heritage area, meeting rooms and office space for Carnoustie Golf Links administration staff. Axis Solutions provided expert input to design, supply and install fittings for the pro shop stock room, making the most of the available space and choosing shelving that would meet the needs of this busy golf outlet. Keir McNicoll Senior Assistant PGA Professional says, "Axis were recommended to Carnoustie Golf Links by St Andrews Links Trust after our study of the Morris warehouse building in St Andrews. Moving into a new building, we were looking to provide a stock room area that was bespoke and allowed us to use the space we had to full effect. Axis Solutions, through their service and attention to detail, were excellent from first contact and made the project simple for us to manage. We pride our business on customer service and were extremely impressed at the service provided by Billy and his team. As golfers from around the world converge on the Scottish seaside town, we're delighted to have played our part in helping prepare for The Open Championship and the busy season ahead.
Glasgow and Edinburgh are both busy locations for Axis Solutions right now, with a series with interior fit-out and refurbishment projects in Scotland's busy city-centres and central belt locations. Frontline Corporate Services, interior fit-out, Glasgow We carried out a comprehensive office fit-out for the corporate services office of international shipping company, Frontline. The company has offices in Oslo, Bermuda and Singapore as well as London and Glasgow. The project at 183 St Vincent Street included acoustic glazed partitions, metal stud partitions, flooring, decoration, a tea-prep area, mechanical and electrical works and the installation of AV equipment. This was our second project in this building, as we have also carried out fit-out work for NPL who are located here. During the project, other tenants were in occupation at 183 St Vincent Street so we had to plan and carry out any noisy activities with careful thought for the building users. Despite our start date being delayed by other factors we were able to fast track the project, adapting our programme to meet the target deadline. The project, with a value in excess of £100k, was successfully completed in January 2018. Scottish Enterprise office refurbishment, Bellshill Heading East along the M8 corridor, we are currently hard at work on a refurbishment at New Lanarkshire House. The project, which was won in a competitive tender includes new flooring, decoration, glazed partitioning, mechanical and electrical alterations, acoustic panelling, suspended ceilings and digital print graphics. We are phasing this major project to enable Scottish Enterprise employees to continue to work, as the refurbishment takes shape around them. Once completed there will be new meeting rooms, canteen area, collaboration areas and breakout spaces. The project has a value over £210K and [...]
In our latest project for energy company Orsted, Axis Solutions provided the fit-out for a new build facility to support an off-shore wind farm. The new facilities in Barrow-In-Furness provide support for Orsted's West of Wallney Extension Windfarm. Based on our knowledge and experience from previous installations, we were given the task of designing the new warehouse, with pallet racking, shelving systems and mesh partitioning. This was the first site where we also designed and installed office furniture into their new offices. This included new height adjustable desks, storage units, canteen furniture, reception furniture and meeting rooms. In addition we designed bespoke heavy duty lockers for the engineers that go offshore and use heavy kit bags. The new build industrial fit-out project gave us the opportunity to demonstrate our space designing expertise and to draw on our existing detailed knowledge of the business. Orsted is a longstanding customer, and we've been working wit them since 2011. Orsted is the new name for Dong Energy, a Danish oil and gas company that have taken a new name to demonstrate their focus on Green Energy. They are a global leader in offshore wind energy. Orsted develop, construct and operate multiple offshore wind farms across Europe, and are gradually expanding our global presence. In the UK alone, Orsted have nine operational offshore wind farms and offer green electricity to UK businesses. Here at Axis Solution we have played our part in Orsted's UK growth, working with them on previously on projects in Barrow-in-Furness at their West of Duddon Sands O&M facility, Grimsby (Westermost Rough O&M facility), Liverpool (Burbo Bank) and London Array in Essex. The project was carried out between July and November 2017 and the total value [...]

A series of office refurbishments in Glasgow and Edinburgh has meant a busy summer season for Axis Solutions. The interiors projects have ranged from strip-outs and reinstatement work, office fit-outs, the development of an office and warehouse complex and the finishing touches to a earlier refurbishment project. Sub-division and fit-out at 227 West George Street, Glasgow The third floor of this busy city centre office building was being reworked to accommodate expansion plans for existing tenant, accountants Johnston Carmichael. We delivered a comprehensive sub-division package including mechanical and electrical alterations, floors, ceilings and decoration works as well as formation of new offices. During the refurbishment we were awarded further fit-out works for Johnston Carmichael involving the creation of a new kitchen area and new glazed partition offices. Enhancing the reception at Caledonian Exchange, Edinburgh Following the extensive refurbishment works we carried out at Caledonian Exchange in Edinburgh earlier this year we have been awarded additional works within the reception area to further enhance the look of the reception space. Axis Solutions planned and delivered a high quality office fit-out for Metaswitch for their growing Edinburgh office. Global communications company Metaswitch were growing their team in Edinburgh and needed a bigger space. We worked with them to refurbish and fit-out a second floor office in Edinburgh's Causewayside. The result? An attractive modern office for Metaswitch's growing Edinburgh team. Metaswitch came to Axis Solutions to discuss their need for larger office accommodation. They were planning to move from the fourth floor, where their office was becoming too cramped, to a larger floorplate on the second floor. The first step in the process was to come up with a fully detailed and itemised budget. Once that was approved we began work on space planning and the design of the proposed new office on the second floor. The client brief was to provide a modern, functional office environment that would provide a workplace where existing employees would be proud to work and a place where new staff would want to work. The project was completed in March 2017. Here's the detail of what we delivered during the 8 week office fit-out project for Metaswitch in Edinburgh: Space planning, interior design and preparation of all building warrant drawings to obtain building warrant and completion certificate Protection of existing common areas (fire exits, common stairwells, toilets) Uplift carpets to allow raised access floors to be uplifted and set aside for re-use Remove existing suspended ceiling where access required for new mechanical and electrical services installation Installation of new metal partitioning and glazed partitioning forming new cellular offices, meeting rooms, conference rooms and comms room Formation of new plasterboard feature columns and beams to reception area Installation of a new folding [...]
Strong relationships and a partnership approach helped Axis Solutions deliver an office strip-out and reinstatement project at The Cube office building in Edinburgh. The development project in Edinburgh's Leith Street involved a total strip-out of the first floor of this iconic building at the east end of the city centre. The office was formerly occupied by Bowleven Oil & Gas who relocated to a new office located in the west end of Edinburgh city centre. A quick turn-around was required for the project at the point of Bowleven moving out. The Cube is well known as an iconic office development in Edinburgh city centre, close to Waverley train station and Edinburgh bus station. Baillie Gifford, Glenmorangie, White Young Green and St James Centre Unit Trust are all based at The Cube. Axis Solutions won the competitive tender for the office strip-out and reinstatement works to take the floor plate back to base-build. The city centre location of The Cube meant that the disposal of all waste material had to be planned and co-ordinated to ensure access roads were not unnecessarily blocked as there is significant development currently taking place around the area. Commenting on the tight turnaround for the project, Bruce Malcolm at Axis Solutions said: "The programme for the works was 5 weeks and this proved challenging. Our work on site could only start once Bowleven had taken occupation of their new office. With the suspended ceiling tile potentially on a 4 to 5 week delivery period, there was a potential for a possible impact on the project. Fortunately due to our excellent working relationship with our key suppliers we were able to secure a commitment on the transfer of available stock of the product from depots to [...]
Axis Solutions recently went through the rigours of a SEMA Distributor Group audit, passing the detailed investigation with flying colours. Axis Solutions are a founding member of the SEMA Distributor group, but this doesn't guarantee ongoing membership. New companies have to complete a detailed 31 point audit programme in order to join the group and existing members have to do exactly the same audit every three years. Ken MacKay, Managing Director at Axis Solutions says, "I am delighted to say that Axis passed the audit with flying colours, achieving a Highly Commended result with a score of 94%. This is amongst the highest scores achieved by any SDG member and is testament to the high quality of the Axis team and our business processes. "SDG membership is an important differentiator for a company like ours. It provides external evidence of the high quality standards we aim for. Legislation places increasing responsibilities on our customers for ensuring that projects are properly planned and managed from a health & safety perspective, and imposes potentially serious penalties where there are failures. Our SEMA Distributor Group membership is an independent hallmark of quality that customers can trust." Axis Solutions recently provided pallet racking for food sector company Moorhead & McGavin at their base in Motherwell. The project involved redesigning the layout and supplying and installing all new pallet racking to provide the right storage for a range of raw and finished food products. Best known for their own Osprio product range, Moorhead & McGavin have been suppliers to the food service and manufacturing industry since 1923. The company previously had pallet racking installed by Axis many years ago which had served them well. However, it was time for change. They needed to expand the number of pallets stored and use more of the warehouse space for pallet racking. The aim of the project was to create the maximum pallet storage within the existing warehouse footprint. The original pallet racking design had 25 bays and all of the other pallets were block stacked in lanes which was not efficient as this did not allow for stock rotation easily. The redesigned layout now has 107 bays along with capacity to increase storage in certain bays. Additional beams were supplied as spare levels to provide flexibility. The company's products include rice, pasta, cereals and pulses, dried fruit and cereal flours. As well as their own Osprio label, they produce many own label products. Their product ranges include gluten-free flours and healthy snacks. The result of careful planning was a number of different bay sizes to suit specific pallet sizes and weights for particular products. The work involved completely dismantling the existing pallet racking. We then supplied and installed new racking to suit an articulated fork lift truck aisle of 2,050mm. Moorhead & McGavin were trading throughout the works apart from two days over the Christmas holidays, which we [...]
New lockers at East Kilbride ice rink are adding to the enjoyment of this busy local sports facility. East Kilbride's championship ice rink is open once again, following a £2.36m refurbishment. We were delighted to contribute to the redevelopment by supplying and fitting new lockers. We were invited to tender for the project by South Lanarkshire Council to supply bespoke solid grade laminate lockers with aluminium chassis. With competitive pricing and excellent delivery lead times, we were delighted to be awarded the project. After a consultation with South Lanarkshire Council, a colour pallet was chosen for the locker doors to complement the surroundings for the changing and public areas in the ice rink. We then worked closely with South Lanarkshire Council and the main contractor to schedule in a delivery and installation programme that suited the tight timescales of the project. East Kilbride ice rink is a great local leisure facility offering family ice skating sessions and lively nights with DJ sets, plus lessons and curling. We reckon the lockers at East Kilbride ice rink are now set to keep happy skaters' belongings safe for years to come. At Axis, we've the knowledge and expertise to source and install lockers for a wide range of uses. We can liaise with main contractors to ensure that installation is seamless and the finishes are of the very highest quality, ensuring that our lockers function effectively and last for many years. We can install lockers in the workplace and in a wide range of public settings such as shopping malls, supermarkets, schools, swimming pools and other leisure facilities. Find out more about lockers from Axis Solutions and get in touch to discuss your requirements.
The Axis Solutions team are working at the weekends again, refurbishing the reception area of high quality office building Caledonian Exchange. Our tried and tested approach to office interior refurbishments for busy live offices provides a smooth experience for the businesses that are based at Caledonian Exchange, a modern office building in Edinburgh's Exchange district. The key is that we are at work when the office workers aren't. The project involved refurbishing the reception area in a six week project which ran from December to January 2017. As well as delivering a high quality finish for the reception area the job had to allow the reception area to continue to function during office hours. At Axis Solutions we have plenty of experience of delivering this kind of project, ensuring that our office interior refurbishments don't get in the way of busy office life. Here's the nitty gritty of what this project involved: Strip out of existing walnut veneered paneling Uplift and disposal of existing floor tiling, carpets and entrance matting Strip out existing lighting installation Ensure reception area is kept clean and safe for building users following any works carried out during nightshift and weekend works Protect and carefully remove the existing reception desk whilst the works are being carried out Phased installation of new floor screed and ceramic floor tiles Installation of new plasterboard feature ceilings with integrated feature lighting Installation of new electrical works Redecoration works to all existing and new finishes Installation of new white laminate wall paneling Re-positioning of reception desk on completion of the works Caledonian Exchange occupies a high profile site clearly visible on the approach to the city centre via the West Approach Road. The National Library of Scotland has opened a new resource at Glasgow's Kelvin Hall, with shelving from Axis Solutions. Glasgow's iconic Kelvin Hall has been redeveloped to offer visitors the opportunity to explore countless treasures that cannot be viewed anywhere else. For the first time, people in the west of Scotland will have easy access to the world class collections held by the National Library of Scotland, whose role is to preserve and protect the memory of the nation. For us this was a straightforward project to supply 40 bays of adjustable steel shelving, but it's exciting to think that the shelving from Axis Solutions now hold - maps, books, manuscripts, reference works, film reels and business information that tells the story of Scotland's past. Visitors to the National Library of Scotland at Kelvin Hall will also be able to explore 100 years of Scottish life on film and video held in the Moving Image Archive. They will also have access to a vast electronic library of information being made available in Glasgow for the first time for personal research and academic study. The move to Kelvin Hall extends the Library's reach out of its historic home in Edinburgh for the first time. It is part of the reinvention of Kelvin Hall as a cultural, academic and sporting complex of international significance. The project is a unique collaboration between Glasgow City Council, Glasgow Life, the University of Glasgow and the Library and follows a £35 million refurbishment of one of Glasgow's best loved buildings.
Our series of Edinburgh city centre office fit-outs is continuing, with a refurbishment for insurance company Lockton. The project is one of the first of the New Year for Axis Solutions. Lockton is the world's largest privately owned, independent insurance brokerage firm. Axis Solutions is currently refurbishing their Edinburgh office. The work is taking place at weekends to minimise the impact on the busy city centre office. The project began in December and will be completed mid January. Edinburgh city centre office fit-outs The refurbishment of Lockton's offices in Rutland Street is the latest in a series of Edinburgh city centre office fit-outs. In the autumn we delivered a number of refurbishment projects in Edinburgh's George Street. We were able to react quickly to meet with the Lockton team on site to establish the scope of the project. Following a site visit we provided a detailed tender submission within a couple of days. Once the office fit-out and refurbishment works got started there were a number of changes to the original scope proposed by the local Lockton team in Edinburgh. We were able to take a positive and collaborative approach to making changes, always keeping the programme on track. A top priority was always to make sure that the Lockton office could operate as normal each Monday morning following the weekend works over the 5 weeks of the refurbishment. Refurbishment for Lockton The office interior fit-out involved: Phased refurbishment of stairs, basement area and offices on the ground floor offices, first floor and second floor. Disconnection of client IT equipment, and removal of furniture and fittings for each phase. Careful uplift and disposal of existing underlay and carpets. Installation of new emergency lighting to stair landings and lobby. Repositioning of recessed [...]
